A Bolt Out of the Blue

Yesterday's tornados never materialized, but the thunderstorms sure did.  Since the crashing thunder would keep me awake, I stayed up organizing pictures on my computer until a flash of lightning shut me down.  It was still too noisy to sleep, so I took my camera out to take pictures of the lightning.  No spectacular zig-zags, just flashes that lit up the whole sky.  This was one of the ordinary ones.
This was one that took my breath away!  I didn't jump back, though, because that would have ruined the exposure!  This is an honest-to-goodness, unretouched photo taken at 12:53 a.m.!
Who would have believed that weather like that, which dumped a total of 1.8" of rain in one day, would turn into a day like today?  It was absolutely perfect weather for us to enjoy with Cori and Lucien.  We walked all over the farm after lunch--gathered an egg, took the horses out, fed Sara, threw sticks in the pond for Zephyr, checked out the cabin, climbed the big back hill and ran down it after Hero.  (Well, Lucien ran!)  But guess what his lightning rod was?  Yep, the Kubota tractor!  He and Herb drove it around near the barn, and Lucien figured out real quick how to raise and lower the loader.  On the way home from church, he told Herb he wants to have a big truck some day, but as he and his mom left, he pointed to the tractor and said he wants one of those!  What boy wouldn't, whatever his size?  :)

  2. Well, I was just on the porch, not actually out in it. I'm not that desperate for a good picture! Shades of "Stardust," huh?
