Friday Night Delight

Babysitting Charis for Jim & Monique's date night on Friday, I guarantee we had more fun than they did!  First, we introduced Charis to Abba's "Thank You for the Music":

Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk
(Mmm)She says I began to sing long before I could talk
And I've often wondered, how did it all start
Who found out that nothing can capture a heart
Like a melody can
Well, whoever it was, I'm a fan
So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me
I've been so lucky, I am the girl with golden hair
I wanna sing it out to everybody
What a joy, what a life, what a chance!

It's her song, what more can I say?

Then Grandpa proposed a walk in the park.  At first, Charis wasn't too sure about the swing . . .

. . . She really had to think about it, but Didi (which is what she calls Grandpa) swung her very carefully . . .

. . . and suddenly she got it!  And she sailed happily back and forth while Didi recited "The Swing":

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!
Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside—
Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown—
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

Robert Louis Stevenson

Watching Didi and Charis was so delightful!

It would be hard to say who had more fun of the three of us, but I know I loved being on the other side of the camera looking in on their precious moments together!

  1. Babysitting has never looked like so much fun! I always recited that song to my kids, too. Another of my favorites is "My Shadow. Love, Barbara

  2. Ah, yes, "I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me . . ." I'll have to re-learn that one so I can recite it to Charis--when we get some sun! Clouds and rain predicted all week, but I can't complain because we really need the rain now!
