Texas [When I Die]

(NOTE:  This is a catch-up, can't-believe-I-almost-forgot post.)

Earlier in May as I drove down the highway from Houston toward San Antonio on my way to Legend Rock Ranch, something caught my eye in the median.  I couldn't believe it!  I thought I had missed bluebonnet season in Texas (and I mostly had), but there were a few blue beauties left to welcome me back.  It's a good thing no one could hear me singing "Bluebonnets!  Bluebonnets!  Bluebonnets!" as I drove along.

I love Texas!  Being in Texas again made my heart practically burst out of my chest--that's how much I love Texas!  I love living on our farm here in Georgia, but (like Tanya Tucker) when I die, just let me go to Texas . . .

"When I die I may not go to heaven.
I don't know if they let cowboys in.
But if they don't just let me go to Texas, Boy!
Texas is as close as I've been.

New York couldn't hold my attention;
Detroit City couldn't sing my song.
If tomorrow finds me busted flat in Dallas,
I won't care, 'cause at least I'll know I'm home.

When I die I may not go to heaven.
I don't know if they let cowboys in.
If they don't just let me go to Texas, Boy!
Texas is as close as I've been.

I'd ride through all of Hell and half of Texas
Just to hear Willie Nelson sing a country song.
Beer just ain't as cold in old Milwaukee.
My body's here, but my soul's in San Antone.

When I die I may not go to heaven.
I don't know if they let cowboys in.
If they don't just let me go to Texas, Boy!
Texas is as close as I've been."

    1. Thank you! I nearly came screeching to a halt in the middle of I-10 when I saw the first patch of bluebonnets! :) But I was on a dead line to get to my friend's ranch, so on the way back to Houston I kept my eyes open for them. Thanks to Texas' two-directional access roads, I was able to watch for a good patch, then exit and drive back along the access road. So much better than screeching to a halt on the interstate! :)
