Something New Under the Sun

The front of our house looks east and the back looks west.  Herb often sees spectacular sunrises out the front door.

For once, I was up to catch this one.

Most days Herb isn't home yet to catch the beautiful late afternoon light out the back door, which was even more brilliant yesterday after a brief rain made everything wet.  I'm wide awake by afternoon, and a view like this makes me run for my camera.

By sunset we're often treated to a real Kodachrome display across the back of our property, like these sun-limned clouds the other evening.

What really grabbed my attention, though, was this sight out our east-facing front door one evening earlier this month . . .

. . . and this one the other evening.  Sunset in the east?  Are you kidding?  In almost six decades of sunrises and sunsets, this is one I've never seen.

Sorry, King Solomon, it looks like there IS something new under the sun!

(Note:  Thanks to my other blog at WordPress for helping me post these photos.  Blogger kept "enhancing" the life out of them every time I tried to upload them!  I hope I can solve the problem quickly so I don't have to keep double-posting every time I want to post a photo of a sunrise or sunset.)

  3. Gorgeous! And very interesting-- we get beautiful colors in the eastern sky at sunset sometimes also. I'll have to google it and see if this phenomenon has a name! :)

    1. Thank you so much, Barbara! It never occurred to me that there would be a name for this! That is a beautiful name! I guess if it has a name, it can't be something new--so, sorry, King Solomon!
