Thoughts from Charles Spurgeon

In January, Barbara gave me a copy of the Cheque Book of the Bank of Faith, by Charles Spurgeon, and I have really enjoyed it.  It's the size of a check book, small enough to fit in my purse, but it usually ends up on my bedside table where it's handy to use at the end of the day.

Reading March 18 last night, I found my heart, kindled with love and gratitude, reaching for God in a way that recalled this wonderful picture that Jenny took of Charis reaching for Jim.  I love the blurry motion of Charis throwing herself towards her daddy as he reaches down to grab her in his arms.

Here is what Spurgeon wrote:

"The prayer of the upright is his delight."   Proverbs 15:8

". . . Then let us pray much and pray in faith.  If our prayer is God's delight, let us not stint him in that which gives him pleasure. He does not consider the grammar of it, nor the metaphysics of it, nor the rhetoric of it; in all these men might despise it.  He, as a Father, takes pleasure in the lispings of his own babes, the stammerings of his newborn sons and daughters.  Should we not delight in prayer since the Lord delights in it?  Let us make errands to the throne.  The Lord finds us enough reasons for prayer, and we ought to thank him that it is so."

  1. Very encouraging...considering plans are still unclear for this summer and JM and I are both praying...but sometimes don't know what to pray except, "thy will be done"!

  2. I'm praying, too! Hope you have an answer soon! Hmm, maybe God is making you wait so you'll keep praying longer because He loves your prayers! :) JK!
