Thankfully, a Mystery is Solved

Kara and I were out shopping all afternoon, so I left the chickens shut up in their pen.  When we got home about 7 p.m., I took a flashlight and ran out through the pitch black dark to shut the coop, knowing the chickens would be inside on their roosts like good girls.  Sure enough, they were--and there were four nice cold eggs waiting for me in the nests.  As I reached in to get the eggs, I heard a rustling noise coming from the dark corner of the barn behind me.  I stood up, turned around, shone my flashlight and said, "Oh my gosh!"

And just like that, a mystery was solved.  Actually, I didn't even know there was a mystery.  I just thought the chickens had been knocking over their crumble feeder and their grain feeder every single day!  And I thought that Zephyr had been getting in there while she was loose outside, licking the crumble feeder clean.  I also thought that when the cats are impatient for me to come because they've run out of food, they get obnoxious and knock their bowl off the stairs where I keep it out of Hero's reach.

Well, now I know better!  The chickens aren't clumsy; Zephyr isn't greedy; and the cats aren't obnoxious!  But Somebody has been thankful for a daily Thanksgiving feast--and here he is!

  2. Yes, he is adorable, isn't he? Sadly, Dad is planning on buying a humane trap, since this is the second time we've needed one. Obviously all the animals eating at the barn attract their wild cousins to the buffet! We can't take a chance on this cute little guy growing up to be a big guy who would get aggressive and attack one of us, like the possum that chased Katie down the alley at East Brow! So Possum Blossom will have to join Ricky Raccoon on that attractive brow view lot for sale out on Hwy. 136!

  3. I'm sure whoever buys the lot for sale on Hwy. 136 will be thrilled to be greeted by so many friendly food hungry animals!

  4. Yeah, maybe they should have to pay extra for all the wildlife they're going to enjoy!
