West Texas Wildfire

Several of our family members are ranchers in West Texas near the towns of Alpine and Fort Davis.  Wildfires are consuming tens of thousands of acres in that area.  The Rockhouse Fire has consumed more than 60,000 acres in Jeff Davis County, home to Ft. Davis, while the Roper Fire has burned 25,000 acres in Brewster County, home of Alpine.  Some of our family members have lost grasslands and fences to the fire.  No rain has fallen for seven months and none is expected until July, at the earliest.  Many people have lost their homes, and now a firefighter has lost his life fighting the fire.  This is a terrible tragedy.

We have many fond memories of vacationing in this area of West Texas.  We have visited the rock shop where the fire is believed to have started.  We love the town of Ft. Davis and are relieved that many historical buildings in it were saved, but devastated to learn of the loss of so many homes nearby.

The house we vacationed in sits across Hwy. 17 from Star Mountain.  We are heartsick!

Please join us in praying for the people of West Texas.
