In this prayer, I use the term "dumb animal" not in the sense of stupid, but in the sense of having no voice to speak. The Bible says of Jesus, "He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth." Isaiah 53:7
Dear Lord,
Brandy was broken through no fault of her own
At the hands of wicked men
Who meant harm to her and to us.
Thank You that You spared her life,
Brought her back,
And healed her hoof.
Now she has had surgery
To try to heal the more lasting damage
In the hope that she can walk and run again
As You meant her to.
But she's in pain, Lord--
Suffering in silence
As she lays pressed close to the frozen earth
Or stands motionless, bearing the hurt,
Or hobbles in excruciating submission to my leading.
Yet I have to ride her, Lord,
Or she won't get better.
I have to push her hard and cause her more pain
If she is to be well and whole again.
But I can't explain it to her
For she is a dumb animal.
Look down on Your creation with compassion, Lord.
Ease Brandy's pain,
Relieve her suffering
And grant her trust in me.
May she know that I love her
And want only the best for her.
May that be enough for now
Until in the days to come
You bring healing and wholeness to her body.
May her memory of pain and suffering
Be wiped away
By the love and care I give her.
May I be Your loving hands to Brandy.
Amen
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that Brandy is suffering. You have such a tender heart for animals Mom! It must be really hard to see her go through this, especially as winter comes on and she's out there in the cold weather etc. I hope she'll be better and frisky by spring.
