How Do I Love Thee?

To paraphrase Elizabeth Barrett Browning:
"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
Of the manure I piled up yesterday into a compost heap for you . . ."

It actually warmed up to 40° yesterday, so we worked outside getting the garden bed ready for planting.  And Herb had so much energy, he shoveled two big piles of manure into one and covered it to compost.  Yay!

"Roses are red,
Valentine's day is gray;
Herb shows he loves me
By bringing my horses hay!"

He also brought me breakfast and coffee in bed this morning, so the animals got their breakfast late.  Sorry, girls, but it was my turn!  He was going to take me out to a nice dinner, but after we got snow and sleet with freezing slush on the road coming home from church, I urged him to cancel.  Instead we got Mexican take-out from our favorite local restaurant and spent the afternoon watching the Olympics.  We've got our Dish on pause so we can catch up minus the commercials, now that our chores are done.  So that's how we spend Valentine's Day in the country.

By the way, we have our own Olympics out here. The chickens had their own little competition this afternoon.  I guess they don't know that gymnastics isn't a winter sport!
