In God's Green Pastures Feeding

Whenever we babysit for Charis and Kol, I put her to bed and Herb puts Kol to bed.  Because Psalm 23 was painted in a frieze around the top of her room, I used to sing the old version of Psalm 23 when I put her to bed:  "The Lord's my Shepherd, I'll not want, He makes me down to lie."  One time, just to be different, I asked her if she'd like me to sing a different song.  She would, and so I sang, "In God's green pastures feeding, by His cool waters lie."  Charis had lots of questions about the song.

What is a valley?
What does "dark the valley" mean?
What is a mountain?
What does "rough the way on the mountain" mean?

I told Charis that sometime when she came to our house we would take her out and let her see the valley and the mountain and why the way is rough on the mountain.

We did that in the pouring rain the other day, and that got me inspired to make a book for the kids to teach them what Psalm 23 means in their language.

Here's the book I made on Shutterfly:

  1. Oh, Susan, this book is just precious and what a priceless gift for your grandkids!
    You are truly. . .
"Telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. . . That the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children, That they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God,
But keep His commandments;" from Psalm 78. You are such an encouragement and inspiration to me.

    1. Thank you so much, Barbara! You can't imagine what an encouragement your comment is to me! :) I hadn't really thought of myself as doing that so it's greatly encouraging to think of it like that. Thank you so much! You will find out how much our grandkids inspire us to reflect on God's Word and His works--especially when they can talk and ask questions!
